Salaam To All,
Many thanks to those of you who were kind enough to help last month. May Allah return the grace abundantly.
Unfortunately, I am reduced to asking for financial help yet again due to my University’s continued mismanagement. Last month (May 2013) we were paid only half salary, and so far this month (June 2013) we have received nothing. I have not made car nor house payments in two months, and am not able to send money to my dependents and children.
Apparently, the powers that be are nonplussed and have exited the scene leaving the faculty and students in hardship.
In any case, with the help of friends, the sale of some books and a few editing projects I have manged to keep food on the table and pay for utilities. But as I write this I have about $200 USD left and no idea (except for this plea) where any further income will be generated.
There is a good possibility I will relocate to KL in a few months when the MIGHTy Training Center generates a contractual relationship. When that happens, insh’Allah, I should be in a greatly improved position.
Meanwhile, I need about $3,000 USD to get through the next six weeks or so on behalf of my dependents and obligations.
Anyone caring to and in a position to help, please do so by making a donation, or by buying some books.
You can write to me direct at ozaid@yahoo.com for book purchases.

FOLLOW UP: 13 June 2013
Alhamduillah. A dear friend has just sent enough to pay half the tuition for my daughter’s University program. May Allah return the grace to him abundantly.
Just to make this clear for those of you who may misjudge me: I am supporting ten people, old and young, in three different countries and five different households, one of whom is in University completing her PhD., the first to do so in my wife’s family, Alhamduillah.
I do not like asking people for money and if my employers were responsible managers my colleagues (there are several) and I would not be in this position. We are all scrambling to keep going and find new work, which is not an easy task for those of us over sixty, and for foreigners like myself who cannot practice their profession.
My most pressing need is for my children: the balance of my daughter’s tuition ($600 USD) , and food and expense money for my three other children ($400 USD) —
I plan to go to Muslim Charities this next week if the theives at KUIN do not pay our salaries by then. I will have no choice.
UPDATE: 17 JUNE 2013
Still no salary but Praise God I have received enough help to pay my daughter’s tuition (She is in the pic above) and pay utilities, rent, keep food on the table and gas in the car. Many thanks.
UPDATE 20 JUNE 2013
Still no salary but Praise God I have received enough (2/3rds of our needs) to secure my daughter’s university position and make car and rent payments. Many many thanks to all who have helped. May Allah return this grace to you in abundance.
UPDATE 26 JUNE 2013
Alhamduillah. The response to this appeal has been wonderful. Our expenses for June have been covered. Thank you all. We have still received neither word nor salary from the defunct leadership of Insaniah University.
The tragedy is compounded by the fact that several of the staff are non-Muslims from other faiths and countries. That such a breech of contract and human decency has come from those who profess Islam and are at the helm of an Islamic University teaching the ethics, morals and principles of the Faith of Mohammad (pbh) is reprehensible, cowardly, and borders on the criminal.
May Allah have mercy on them.

AN EMBARRASSMENT: Kedah MB and Kuin rector blamed
KOLEJ Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) was touted as the pride of Kedah Pas. As soon as the Islamist party took over Kedah after the March 8, 2008 general election, newly appointed Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak pledged to make Kuin an Islamic-based educational institution that all Kedahans can be proud of.
Azizan added that Kuin, mooted and set up by the previous Barisan Nasional state government, would be of world-class standard. His promise was a major agenda in the Kedah Pakatan Rakyat’s manifesto for the last general election.
All was well then, at least on paper. Today, however, Kuin is in almost utter ruin. One person taking charge and who dared to go against Azizan is the university college’s senior assistant registrar, Muhammad Azki Hafizi Ibrahim. A pioneer staff at Kuin since it opened its doors 11 years ago, he has a lot to share on the troubles faced by the institution.
During a “tell-all” ceramah, dubbed Kuin Bersih 2.0: Gempur Jazan recently, he confided in about 350 people present on Kuin’s troubles. He claimed that Kuin’s troubles started after Azizan appointed one of his university buddies, Professor Datuk Dr Jamil Osman, as its rector.
In the emotionally charged ceramah, held no less in Sungai Limau which is Azizan’s and Pas’ stronghold where the menteri besar is its assemblyman for the past four terms, Hafizi described Jamil as an ambitious person but with poor knowledge of the running of an educational institution.
Hafizi produced documents, he claimed as proof, of Jamil’s abuses and mismanagement. He said Kuin was about RM13 million in the red with most of the funds, drained from the state government, spent on Jamil’s “cronies”. The “cronies”, he said, were made directors of some seven subsidiaries set up under Insaniah Holdings, the investment arm of Kuin.
“The directors are paid fat salaries but Kuin owes us tens of thousands of ringgit in unpaid salaries,” he said on the much-publicised failure by the university college to pay the 300-odd staff and lecturers their salaries on time since middle of last year.
Failure by Kuin to pay its employees on time had caused the majority of them to receive warning letters from banks for failure to remit payments for their car and housing loans.
“Many of us have also been blacklisted by financial institutions,” he said to a mixed audience of young professionals and simple folk of Sungai Limau, a basically agrarian community in the Malay heartland of Kedah.
Another speaker, Sajiah Yaacob, a lecturer on hospitality studies, said she and seven other colleagues had been slapped with show-cause letters for “speaking up”.
“Here we have a state government which promised a ‘Sejahtera Rakyat’ slogan, but we are being punished for speaking up for our rights. This is nothing political but we are simply fighting for what is due to us and the Kuin management has absolved itself of any wrongdoing,” she said.
Hafizi, Sajiah and another lecturer, Mohd Baihaki Hassan, said they have met Azizan and Jamil with their concerns on Kuin but neither men were keen to hear them out. They have also lodged reports of alleged financial abuses and mismanagement at Kuin with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
They have also openly dared Azizan and Jamil to sue them over their allegations. Jamil and his senior management staff have remained unreachable on the issues raised by Hafizi and company. Azizan, on a number of occasions, had assured that all would be well once Kuin moved into its new campus in Kuala Ketil.
That remains to be seen. The campus, which was opened by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah in January, is still under construction. Some 2,500 students are expected to move into the new campus on March 17, but the eight dormitories planned have yet to see daylight.
Instead they will live in a pasang-siap residential block, which only started works recently. Until then, the students would be housed in lecture halls and lecture halls modified into their living quarters.
