For the first time, a Sarawak NGO has openly stated that the state would be better off being independent. The Movement for Change, Sarawak (MoCS) said that the on-going religious debate in Peninsular Malaysia which took on a dangerous turn of late has caused great concern among Sarawakians.
- “We, Sarawakians, want no part in this heated quarrel over the Allah issue. The people of Sabah and Sarawak have no religious or racial problems and we don’t wish to be contaminated with ‘religious poison’ from bigots and ‘dangerous’ politicians like Ibrahim Ali from Malaya,” MoCS leader Francis Paul Siah said in a statement here today.
Disappointed with Najib
MoCS has always maintained that Sarawakians are a different breed and “our racial and religious harmony are genuine, unique and not hypocritical”.
- “On these two fronts, the people of West Malaysia could take a cue from us. But would they?,” Siah asked.
He said that the government had allowed Ibrahim Ali to go ‘scot free’ for uttering offensive and inflammatory words against Christians was the last straw. The Perkasa leader has called on Muslims to burn the Malay version of the Bible.
- “How can any Malaysian, let alone government leaders, with the right sense of mind continue to tolerate the likes of Ibrahim Ali and his Perkasa group.
- “We are very disappointed with the prime minister for doing nothing about it. At times, we wonder whether Najib is the prime minister of Sarawak and Sabah or only of Malaya,” Siah said.
No reason to stay
There are many other reasons why Sarawak would be better off by pulling out of Malaysia.
- “The list is too long to detail here but as it stands today, I cannot think of one good reason why Sarawak should remain in Malaysia,” Siah said.
The MoCS leader said he also supported the suggestion from Sabah STAR deputy chairman Daniel Jambun that Sabah should leave the federation. Jambun, in a statement to FMT today, said he was appalled by the weakness of the prime minister who is not even willing to flex his muscle to arrest, charge and punish Ibrahim Ali for for fanning racial and religious hatred in the country.
- “The prime minister’s silence is opening good reasons for Sabah to secede from the federation because past assurance for us have been reneged and violated, and that we have long felt that we are no longer defended by our own laws, by our own leaders, even by some of our kings?,” he said.

not surprised to see how intolerance, ignorance and superficiality…manifests itself with fanaticism…signs of primitive reflexes when the brain is damaged…
DEAR MR OMAR,
I WAS WONDERING HOW WOULD THE MALAY LEADERS CHOOSE TO RESPOND,
IF SARAWAK AND SABAH WERE TO ACTUALLY GO AHEAD WITH SECESSION?
DO THEY KNOW WHICH CHOICE TO SELECT? HOW WOULD AVERAGE MALAYS
CHOOSE TO RESPOND? DO THEY KNOW WHICH CHOICE TO SELECT? HOW
WOULD OTHER MUSLIMS CHOOSE TO RESPOND? DO THEY KNOW WHICH
CHOICE TO SELECT? IF WE THE MUSLIMS WERE TO DECIDE ON A SINGLE
CHOICE BASED ON TWO GOOD CHOICES, WHICH ONE SHOULD WE CHOOSE?
IF WE THE MUSLIMS WERE TO DECIDE ON A SINGLE CHOICE BASED ON TWO
BAD CHOICES, WHICH ONE SHOULD WE CHOOSE? IF WE THE MUSLIMS WERE
TO DECIDE ON A SINGLE CHOICE BASED ON TWO CHOICES, ONE WHICH IS
GOOD AND OTHER WHICH IS BAD, IS IT NOT A “BENCHMARK” INDICATING TO US
THE EMERGENCE OF DECADENCE IN OUR SOCIETY AND TO QUICKLY APPLY
THE NECESSARY MEDICINE. ARE WE TO BE BLAME FOR OUR OWN STUPIDITY
AND LACKED OF INTELLECTUAL ACUMEN? IS IT THE FAILURE OF OUR
PARENTS TO PROVIDE GOOD UPBRINGING? IS IT THE FAILURE OF THE ULAMA
TO DISSEMINATE CRITICAL RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE AND GUIDANCE? IS IT THE
FAULT OF OUR CORRUPT LEADERS POLITICAL POLICIES? OR IS IT JUST OUR
FATE THAT EVERYTHING AROUND US IS BEGINNING TO FALL APART? IN THE
EVENT THAT WE THE MUSLIMS ARE FORCED TO DECIDE ON A CHOICE BASED
ON TWO BAD CHOICES, WE CAN NEVER CHOOSE BECAUSE TWO BAD
CHOICES ARE NEVER A CHOICE, DOES IT NOT THEN CONSTITUTE A GROSS
INJUSTICE AND CRUELTY DONE TO OURSELVES? WHY DON’T WE THE MUSLIM
ASK OURSELVES THE HARD QUESTIONS!!! THANK YOU!!
FROM SINGAPORE WITH LOVE!!!
Salaam Brother,
The leaders, unfortunately, merely use religion in the time honored tradition of all hypocrites, as a tool for mass mind-control. As for the Ulmema, they have committed two sins: one, they sell their religion for the safety net of a salary (this is exactly why Sheikh Hanbal chose the sword), which is not the sunnah and which also means they have become a clergy no different from the Catholics, for example. Their second crime against heaven and the ummah is that they are unbalanced; meaning they are far to religious (sanctimonious) and have almost totally neglected the hard sciences: meaning they do not read the book of creation and hence, do not teach it. What is the result? Pure taqlid: the blind leading the blinder, which is a recipe for the arrogance (pride) that ultimately leads to disaster. Their enemies know this only too well, and are simply biding their time until the 3-4th generation are too helpless to defend themselves. At that time, the carpet of pretense, upon which the Malay stands, will be removed.

Dear Dr Omar!!.Pretty strong comments there!!.I’m sure any Malay who might read your response to my questions will get a tingling sensation or two but as per usual you are right!!.If we could attain scientific achievements in the field of invention, let’s just say if we have the raw materials, the technical knowledge and we can invent ten new products with a high product necessity value that the West cannot produce by itself,we could then sell those products to them and gain some kind of bargaining power at the diplomatic table albeit for a short while before they send their industrial spies that is!!.The West views things from a material perspective. In order for us to be seen as useful and respected by the West,we need to be consistently ahead in the scientific race!!.There i have said it!!.Is that enough?.Care to comment on that? Wa Salam!!
